Welcome to Royal Registan

Jaisalmer is spectacular. Approaching it from the desert, it seems suddenly to rise out of the desert haze, a magnificent stretch of massive yellow sandstone walls and bastions bathed golden in the afternoon sun. The city has thus become popular as the Golden City and is sure to cost a magical spell on the visitor.

Perched atop the Trikutta Hill, Jaisalmer stands tall against miles of gleaming send epitomizing the desolate awesome charm of the desert.  The hostile terrain notwithstanding, the warmth and colour of the people is simply over whelming. Jaisalmer was founded in 1156 by the Bhatti Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal after whom it is named. It has an ancient history linked with its development as a trading center. One of the main draws is the daunting 12th century Jaisalmer Fort.

The city itself has a medieval aura. Despite the passage of time the monuments of Jaisalmer still stand tall and proud. The beautiful havelis which were built by wealthy merchants of Jaisalmer are yet another interesting aspect of the desert city.

The city impressed everyone who passed through its monuments, havelis, markets and on the top its culture and distinct identity. And you can let your eyes caress the sloppy sand dunes while you ramble your way in a camel safari.
